Frequent Questions and Answers

Would you be willing to write a letter of recommendation for me?

A letter of recommendation (LoR) is strong when it comes from someone who knows you well and who can easily describe your accomplishments and skills without further questioning. Based on this, all of the following must be true before I commit to writing you a LoR:
  1. I am one of the best individuals in your network to write the LoR.
  2. You've asked for it at least one week in advance of the deadline, preferably two weeks.
  3. You are a student who fits one or more of the following criteria:
    • You are or were a member of my research lab and have worked with me for more than a semester.
    • You are or were one of my Teaching Assistants and have worked with me for more than a semester.
    • You are or were part of a Create-X or I2P team I have supervised, and worked with me for more than a semester.
    • You are a GT student who took one of my classes during one Summer semester: Summer sections are small and foster an experience completely different from Fall and Spring sections.
    • You are a former UF, El Bosque, or Uniandes student with whom I had multiple conversations, interactions, or project collaborations.

If you satisfy these requirements, please send me an email (Subject: Request for LoR - Requirements Checked) with the following:
  1. Your full name.
  2. Remind me how we know each other and when we met the first time (this is a common question asked to recommenders). Please list everything: e.g.,
"I have done research with you and am also a TA for CS 2340."
  3. Provide me with specific details about our experience(s) together, conversations, and how we have collaborated/interacted.
  4. Your deadline (so I can organize my agenda accordingly).

Please note that GT Spring and Fall undergraduate sections are too large for me to recommend anyone based on coursework and class interactions. I suggest reaching out to Faculty who can refer to more personalized experiences.

Also, please don't add me to recommendation systems unless you have satisfied all the requirements listed above. I will need to "not recommend" applicants who don't follow my criteria.
